Aarts Conserves was established in 1934. Since then much has changed; higher quality standards, more efficient production methods and a bigger turnover. At the same time many of the fundamental values remain the same: focus on quality, a reliable partner and founded in Limburg’s Lottum. The highlights are posted below.
- 1934Asparagus grower Mart Aarts started producing asparagus. Aarts Conserves was born.
- 1950Founder and owner Mart Aarts passed away. His son Piet Aarts takes over the business.
- 1978Aarts Conserves specialises in conserved fruits and asparagus. Staple produce, such as beans, peas and carrots are phased out.
- 1981Holland Cherries grow to become one of the mainstays of the assortment.
- 1986Piet Aarts sells the business to Berenschot and leaves the company. His three sons continue to work for Aarts Conserven.
- 1989Berenschot sells Aarts Conserven after three years. Aarts Conserven becomes one of seven conserves companies owned by SuikerUnie.
- 1991Neighbour and truck driver Jan Verbong gets the keys for his new lorry.
- 1993After three years under Suiker Unie, Loe Rijvers takes over Aarts Conserven.
- 1998Jan Kessels joins as shareholder. He joins Loe Rijvers and together they become the Board of Directors.
- 1998The foodservice market is further developed with the introduction of asparagus in cans.
- 2001Expansion of production facilities to the latest standards. Aarts Conserven is both IFS and BRC certified at the highest level.
- 2005New labels for products; craftsman quality in a timeless wrapper.
- 2007Launching the ‘light’ range, allowing consumers to enjoy Aarts products containing less sugar.
- 2009Due to the growth in asparagus, cherries and pears, the turnover has doubled in the past 10 years.
- 2012Loe Rijvers departs from Aarts Conserven after 38 years’ service.
- 2013The original Aarts house is fully restored and functions as company offices.
- 2015Aarts Conserven is the first Dutch conserven company to be certified for its Corporate Social Responsibility (MVO) policy.
